Grandparents want to create a special connection with their grandchildren. This is no surprise because they have a lot of experience in raising children. Thus, they might be times that they cross the line on the rules you imposed on your child. Here are some ways to keep you, your child, and your parents all happy.
Discuss with the Grandparents
It can be a challenge to resolve grandparents who tend to spoil. If your parents spoil your child outside your household, it is more difficult. Nevertheless, if it happens in your home, it is easier to discuss it with them since you are all in your home. Moreover, we cannot have children manipulate their grandparents. Grandparents tend to be too soft-hearted towards their grandchildren.
Instead of calling out your parents right then and there, it is best to talk to them privately. You can tell them that you are grateful for the things they do for your children and then, explain your concern. Do not ever call them out in front of your children.
To avoid having this kind of conversation, you can discuss parenting styles early on with your parents especially if you can see that you and your parent’s parenting style are conflicting.
